A city garden

Giardino per un appartamento al pian terreno

Location Rome, Italy

Year 2008

Description The aim of the project was to find refuge from the pedestrians’ intrusion, the noise and sight of passing cars without losing depth, light and ventilation. The project focuses on the edges, trying to reinterpret the concrete existing fence, very common among the roman buildings of the forties. A vegetable layer was added to the outer wall, along its whole surface an iron vine is anchored with plates partially covering the pattern of the fence. The rose and jasmine creepers from above and the Arbutus unedo and Pittosphorum bushes from below establish the right balance between sight and cover, between light and shadow.
